Programme Overview
Ghana is a developing nation with the capacity for rapid growth in the near future and needs trained human resources capable of producing housing and related physical infrastructure and services to meet the needs of industry and individuals in the country. Meeting these needs requires professionals trained at high levels to acquire scientific knowledge and engineering principles in construction Technology. Become a highly trained built environment professional by joining the Construction Technology Education program at the Department of Vocational and Technical Education at the University of Cape Coast. Our focus is to empower our students with technical, managerial, pedagogical and entrepreneurial skills to satisfy the needs of society and the construction industry through a professional and ethical approach. To meet these demands, the University of Cape Coast Engineering and Technology Unit uses innovative teaching and learning methodologies such as Problem-Based Learning, Industry-Based Experiential Practice, and Research-Based Learning to produce competent graduates with the knowledge and skills required to address the construction-related needs of society. Our students are passionate individuals from different backgrounds who share a passion for building the Construction Technology field.
Our Journey
The Construction Technology Education program functions under the Department of Vocational and Technical Education which was established in 1993 through the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Ghana. The aim of the Construction Technology Education program is to train construction technology graduates with the capacity to teach at the pre-tertiary level of education or work in the construction industry.
Academic Programs
The Bachelor of Construction Technology Education Program is a combination of architecture technology, construction engineering and management, quantities and estimation and education courses. Students delve into diverse areas, including Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Drawings, Architectural Technology, Structural Analysis, Foundation Engineering, Substructure and Superstructure Technology, Concrete Technology, Wood Technology, Land Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Building Services, Sustainability and Circular Economy, Contract Law, Construction Planning and Scheduling, and Construction Project Management along with Methods of Teaching TVET, Curriculum Studies in TVET, Sign Language, and Educational Psychology. Students gain invaluable industrial experience to complement their academic learning through industrial attachment and seminars. We have both regular and sandwich sessions which are delivered through face-to-face and online.

Our Students
Our student body is the heart and soul of our program. Our students include SSSCE holders, WASSCE holders, Holders of intermediate certificates, Higher National Diploma (HND) holders, Holders of Diplomas in Architecture, Mature Students and International Students. Students also have opportunities to engage in various co-curricular activities, nurturing a sense of collaboration and unity. Professional bodies accept our students as associate members across the globe.

Career Prospects
Our graduates are well-prepared for a range of exciting careers. With a solid foundation in Education and Building Construction, they are equipped to inspire the next generation as competent graduates in construction technology. Graduates of the programme can be employed to teach in the following areas at the pre-tertiary level of education: Graphic Communication (technical drawing), Building Construction Technology, and Architectural Technology/Building drawing. Alternatively, our graduates have the requisite skills and knowledge to be employed in the construction industries as: site supervisors/managers. They can also be self-employed as: Building Contractors, Architectural Technologists, Quantity Surveyors, Construction project estimators, and Consultants.

Admission/Entry, Progression and Graduation Requirements
- SSSCE holders with credit passes (A-D) in THREE core subjects including English language and Mathematics, plus Integrated Science or Social Studies and THREE credit passes (A-D) in the following electives: Elective Subjects: Elective Mathematics, Physics, Technical Drawing, Building Construction, Chemistry, Woodwork, Geography, Economics, ICT, Business Management, Business Mathematics, Principles of Costing, General Knowledge in Art, Graphic Design/Sculpture.
- WASSCE holders with Credit passes in Three (3) Core Subjects: English and Mathematics plus Integrated Science or Social Studies ; and Three (3) Elective Subjects: Elective Mathematics, Physics, Technical Drawing, Building Construction, Chemistry, Woodwork, Geography, Economics, ICT, Business Management, Business Mathematics, Principles of Costing, General Knowledge in Art, Graphic Design/Sculpture.
- NABPTEX and Technical Examination Certificate II Holders: Applicants who have completed NABPTEX Certificate II in (Building Technology, Wood Technology, and Architectural Technology) with a minimum of five (5) credit passes and a pass in the practical subject. OR Six (6) passes plus Certificate in Foundation Studies in Construction Technology organised by the Department.
- Higher National Diploma (HND) / Diploma holders (Building, Civil, and Wood Technology) from an accredited tertiary or professional institution with at least a Third class. These candidates would be admitted to level 200.
- Mature Students: This category of candidates must be at least 25 years of age before admission and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth. The prospective candidate must pass the mature entrance examination organised by the University and an interview organised by the Department.
- Other Entry Requirements:
- Construction Technician Course - Part One and Two Certificates (CTC I and CTC II). Prospective candidates must also show proof of at least two years work experience in the construction field.
- Foreign qualifications that are internationally acceptable for admission into universities.
